There are many stories about the past. They can be real, like the stories you hear in history lessons. Examples are stories about how people used to live in the Roman Empire, or what happened in World War II. Stories can also be fictional (verzonnen). Examples are old fairytales or the latest Netflix superhero movie.

But how do you talk about something that happened in the past?
